"If."
- Spartan Ephor, as a reply after receiving a message from Philip II of Macedon,
which stated "If I win this war, you will be slaves forever."
((Bad-ass Spartans know how to scare a guy, both Philip and Alexander would
avoid Sparta entirely.))
If you could tell me how that is possible first...
I mean, I don't get the question.
Is it like "can I be a better person than I am now?" or is it like
"can a perfect person be more perfect?", because the question is
weird. If God could be more powerful than Himself, then He would UberGod, but
that would still equal God because He is all-powerful...
She DOES need help. This is bad. This is really bad. Tell her to see a doctor
for her STD and anorexia... You might end up losing a friend if you don't take
immediate action. How is she now?
Only 13?! What does her parents think about this? What are they doing? Does she
have any other relative to go to for help? Give her support as long as you can,
I think your friend is on the path of self-destructive behavior. Looks like
friend relly trusts you if she told you all that stuff about herself. She needs
you, man. Be there for her...
I think you're a good friend, by the way. You d' man!

After skimming on the posts here, I got most of the story by now.
That 19 yr old pedophile boyfriend of hers should be jailed... in the middle
east... with men twice his size and who hasn't seen a woman in like 20 yrs.
Let's see how he likes sex after that!
I'd have to say that she's a lost cause but I understand why you want to stick
by her. Losing a friend is hard, but losing a friend "that" way is
hellishly hard.
Did she really say that to you? tell you to get out of her life? I hope you
understand why she's like this. I guess having grown-up in an enviroment where
the parents are useless, you'd be bad too. She's probably having a hard time
seeing what options she have left. Just continue to be a friend to her, 'kay.
She needs friends more than ever now.
Well you never know when an army of evil hamster would plot to overthrow the
government by using state-of-the-art tin foil, and you need to cast a spell on
your toy soldiers to make an army to fight the evil hamster army...
Um... isn't that like what's happening now? I'd tell them to say it in front of
me... and my hooligan friends... and my pitbulls...
What if a stranger tells you that you were destined to destroy the world and
that your best friend/lover/person-your-intimate-with is destined to oppose
you... What do you do?
1. Ignorant, know-it-alls who give their opinion even if it is not asked!
2. People who degrade other people because of their beliefs.

It wouldn't have done him any good anyways. If he works on something that he
didn't believe to be true, he'd just be lying to himself. But if it doesn't
affect his work it would've been okay...
Quote: As for the sorrows that beset our kind well we were
the ones that made the choice to try to be like God (read the story of the
Garden of Eden) so now we have to live with that decision and all of its
consequences. Lifes like that and God knew it would be like that which is why
the first rule was not to eat from the one specific tree. We broke the rule and
were cast out of Eden but we were not abandoned. Rather I liken it to as I said
earlier being pushed out of the nest.
Um... why have a tree if no one's supposed to eat off it? Also, the sins of the
extremely distant relatives don't pass on normally, so why does that one?
Quote by kuroimisaPeople will very
likely disagree with what I'm thinking, but firstly I would like to state that
I'm not binded to any religion. Having
said that, I'm not picking on any religion because I have very little knowledge
of religion.
My concept of God: I don't want to personalise God, but rather I feel that God
exists within us, rather than somewhere
else. Where God is inside us doesn't matter (I'm not arguing God exists in our
mentality or whatever - he could live there, in your heart, your beliefs, your
soul - wherever). And because of this belief, I think that if you're looking for
spiritual enlightenment or help or relief, I think the answer is to look within,
rather than out.
Of course many people would highly disagree that someone so transcendent such as
God would possibly inhabit mere mortals, well, that is my concept of God.
I don't think that many would disagree with what you said... if they have an
open mind that is. I do believe that there is a little bit of God inside us,
which keeps as honest and true. A conscience, an internal barometer to what is
right or wrong, if you will. Of course, what you said mostly resembles to how
Buddha found his enlightenment...
Quote by samu02Well, it is where you
belong when you question the existence of God and haven't found an answer yet. I
don't believe that anyone can actually say that they don't believe in God,
because remotely they have in their mind an idea of something/someone greater
than themselves.
Many here have proven with words, scientific theories and logical explanations
why they lack any sort of belief in a divine being: They find the concept of an
omnipotent, omniscient and righteous being unfathomable through choice or the
inability to comprehend any religious scriptures.
Of course, atheism can be divided into "strong atheism" whereby one
explicitly believes that god does not exist. "Weak atheism" on the
other hand refers to any sort of non theism falling short of this
standard.
Quote by samu02It is either they are still
denying the existence of God or, in the case of those who grew up in a communist
state or where the idea of God is not told, haven't heard of God. So, long story
short (too late), atheist is just a phase, like teenagers. Unfortunately, some
people never grow up...
There is still debate going on as to whether those who have never heard of a
divine being should be considered atheists as it was not their choice to refute
the claims of a divine being having never been exposed to the concept.
Throughout history, there has been little to espouse that a divine being exists
other than the holy scriptures themselves, which cannot be considered to be
fully reliable as there have been many other scriptures, holy books and
mythologies regarding other divine beings (And largely brushed aside by
mainstream religions).
To regard atheism as a "childish phase" is to condemn doubt, curiosity
and critical thinking. Galileo, who insisted the earth revolved around the sun
was charged with heresy by the inquisition and condemned to house arrest only
because he repented.
Take into consideration that all non believers were arrested, sat for trial,
tortured and burnt at the stake by the inquisition if they did not repent.
So take your own advice: Grow up and accept that there are many differing views,
ideologies and reasons for their existence.
Whoa!
Well, that is true. Although you neglected to state that even believers were
arrested, sat for trial, tortured and burnt at the stake by the same
inquisition. The people who led the Inquisition weren't right in the head,
taking their beliefs to the extreme and not allowing other people to have a
different belief. But I do not think that the religion itself was at fault, but
the weak men that lead it. They were discriminating and greedy, not at all
exhibiting the qualities of The Son of Man they said they served.
I do not condemn atheism. But I do get annoyed by the hostile way some of them
show their disdain for believers of God. Granted that the believers have shown
similar disdain to atheists.
I find it healthy to question what is widely accepted, but to accept the first
answer you come to, or say that such a thing cannot exist when you only started
to search for the answer, is indeed childish, by my account.
Either way, I am thankful that you were courteous and polite in your response to
my post, it is much appreciated.
Well, one thing is for sure... You can't decide on how long you can live... Life
is fragile that way... You can say that you want to go down fighting but you
could get into an accident and die suddenly. Basically, the only choice you
really have is how to use the years of life. Death is not a logical choice for
us people.
I don't think God would sit on His throne and daily look at a list and say
"Oh, this one should die today. And I'm giving this one an extension on the
account that I like her.."
And besides, I don't think of death as a choice for you or God. Death is no
choice, it is a consequence.
YES! But they should get a hug and pep talk afterwards for reassurance
